Goalpara, August 3: The five-day State-wise strike called by the All Assam Municipality Employees’ Association entered its third day on Thursday leading to a stagnant environment in regard to cleanliness in the town. The strike which began on August 1, is supposed to continue till August 5. It has severely affected all the 19 wards of Goalpara town. The association is demanding implementation of the Assam Government’s cabinet decision way back on September 4, 2013 to bring the municipality employees under the government. Besides, they are emphasizing receipt of approved category staffing pattern decision which was taken on the same day. “There are muster roll workers, contractual and fixed pay staff who are serving the office who should immediately be brought under the government and facilities be given,” remarked Anower Hussain, secretary, municipality employees’ association, Goalpara. The employees are also fighting for their fellow workers who are serving under Sixth Schedule for years and should be placed under the State Finance Commission, besides releasing their pending salaries.
