UDALGURI, Aug 3: The district legal service authority, Udalguri organized a witch hunting awareness camp at Kajiamati village in collaboration with Kajiamati Anchalik ABSU. The meeting was chaired by Ramendranath Brahma, the adviser of Kajiamati Anchalik ABSU and the introduction of guests was given by Chiranjit Brahma, the president of Kajiamati Anchalik ABSU. Mitharam Basumatary, former EM of BTC, Biswanath Baglary, social worker, and Jayanta Brahma, senior advocate of Udalguri district court, delivered their speeches on the social evils of witch hunting.
Brahma appealed to the villagers to take the help of doctors and avail the free medical services provided by the government. “Superstitious beliefs will take us nowhere,” he observed. Kajiamati village witnessed a fresh incident of witch hunting but the Udalguri district committee ABSU intervened and resolved the issue without any untoward incident. The meeting was also attended by Ranjanjyoti Choudhury, the court manager, Pravin Basumatary, member of DLSA, gaon bura Baneswar Brahma and others. Tarun Brahma and Sonaram Brahma, villagers of Niz Kajiamati village, narrated the incident of witch hunting in that meeting. The Kajiamati Anchalik ABSU has given a strong message to avoid such superstitious beliefs and practices.
