SHILLONG, Aug 3: The central body of Federation of Khasi Jaintia Garo People (FKJGP) has demanded that the State government erase the name of one Meghna Das from the list of candidates for admission into MBBS and BDS for session 2017-18.
In this connection, a delegation of FKJGP members led by its chief organizer Marbud Dkhar met Director of Health Service (DHS) R Budnah on Thursday to discuss on the issue.
On a notice board at DHS office here, a list of candidates for admission into MBBS, BDS for session 2017-18 was pasted. Interestingly, the address of Meghna Das was printed as Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Road, Meghalaya House Staff QTR No.9, New Delhi, East Khasi Hills.
Speaking to reporters after meeting the DHS, Dkhar questioned, “Before the office releases the final list in the next few days on the allotment of seats for MBBS and BDS courses from the State quota, we sought clarification from the Director as on what ground Meghna Das was able to apply for the State quota.”
He added, “We clearly know that Meghna Das is a resident of Delhi and in her address we found that she had added East Khasi Hills. So it’s confusing because we want to know if Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Road Meghalaya House Staff QTR No.9 New Delhi is located in East Khasi Hills.”
Dkhar informed that the FKJGP will also take up the matter with the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills district. “We will request the Deputy Commissioner not to provide Permanent Residence Certificate (PRC) to her,” he said, adding that the federation was curious to know how the name of Meghna Das entered the list. “Many of our local youths have applied for MBBC and BDS courses. And if this outsider takes away the rights of the indigenous people of the State, what will be the future of our youth?” he wondered.
