Shillong, July 16: The youth wing of Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) has slammed Chief Minister Mukul Sangma led MUA-II government for allegedly not taking into consideration the issue of railway project in the State sincerely. “The opposition faced against the railway project from various quarters is because till date there are no proper mechanisms to check influx,” KHNAM youth wing president Thomas Passah said here on Sunday. He said the railway line up to Shillong and connecting Sohra as suggested by the Chief Minister would not bring any development unless there is a mechanism to check influx. Rather, he said, it would have a negative impact on the indigenous population of the State. “It’s not time for talks anymore. The government should take a decision to scrap the railway project completely,” Passah demanded. The KHNAM leader was of the opinion that the government should implement the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system in the State and immediately solve the border disputes with neighbouring States before considering the railway project.
He further urged the people of the State and other social groups to stand united on this issue to oppose the government’s adamant stand on the railway project. “We demand that the project should be scrapped immediately without having any further discussion on the issue,” he demanded.
