GUWAHATI, July 16: The All Assam ME Teachers’ Association (AAMETA) has alleged that the district elementary education officials have been harassing headmasters and teachers of ME schools in the name of amalgamation of schools.
Talking to this reporter over telephone, AAMETA secretary general Dwipen Sarma said: “The inspectors of schools and district elementary education officials have been collecting signatures from headmasters forcibly in various districts for amalgamation of schools. Of late, the Education Department wants to go ahead with the amalgamation through an office memorandum issued in 2016. We filed a petition in the court against the move. We’ve requested the Gauhati High Court to review its ruling in the petition. The State Government has also requested the High Court to review its ruling in the case. Since the move for amalgamation of schools is a sub-judice one now, the officials of the department can’t put pressure on school headmasters to sign anything relating to that. In such a situation the headmasters of ME schools are also not bound to sign.”
