Dilapidated condition of NH-15

While TV talk shows are being aired on the subject of ‘Smart Cities’ in Assam, there is strong apathy to the present dilapidated condition of key roads in many parts of the State. The segment of NH-15 (previously NH-52) between Tezpur and Biswanath Chariali is one of such examples. It is extremely difficult to drive vehicles on the road due to its deplorable condition. Besides causing body ache, it spoils valuable time of commuters as well as loss of both human and vehicle energy. The road is under expansion to four-lanning of national highway by National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL). Though the works of expansion is running in full swing, the completion of four-lanning project will take some more time as it is still in the preliminary stage. The maintenance of the existing road should not be ignored in the name of the new project of expansion. The utter negligence shown by the NH authority towards repairing of the present road is a matter of great concern as it is causing danger to the public on every moment. It also reflects the lack of proper co-ordination between National Highway authority, PWD and NHIDCL as a result of which the public have become the worst victim. Let the strategy and energy of the government preserved for the vision of smart cities be diverted for repairing of these roads in the State as a priority. I would like  to draw the attention of the government through your esteemed daily for urgent solution of this ongoing torture on NH-15, the most important road in the North Bank of river Brahmaputra.

Satish Kumar Sarma,
Kalyanpur, Biswanath Chariali.
